A Morning Walk at Beacon Hill, Leicestershire 🌲⛰️
There’s something magical about Beacon Hill this time of year. I set off from the lower car park, choosing the outer wooded path — the trees at this time of year have a stillness about them that’s hard to put into words.
The climb up to the summit isn’t brutal, but you feel every metre of those 112m of elevation gain. By the time you break out of the tree line and onto the open hilltop, the views across Leicestershire open up in every direction.
On a clear December morning like this one, it’s genuinely stunning. Rolling countryside, the odd frost still clinging to the ground in the shadows. Perfect walking conditions.
The 4km route is accessible enough for most fitness levels but gives you just enough challenge to feel like you’ve earned that cup of tea when you get back.
I’d highly recommend it if you’re in the East Midlands and looking for a half-morning walk with a decent payoff.
The Route
This walk reminded me why Beacon Hill is such a gem in Leicestershire: a mix of woodland, hills and breathtaking views, all wrapped up in a manageable morning walk.
