A Walk Around Donington Park

If you’re after something a bit different from your usual countryside walk, this route around Donington Park is well worth doing.

What makes this one stand out is the mix of walking and motorsport. On most days, you can freely access the outer areas of the track, with free parking and plenty of space to explore. But if you time it right like we did, you might also catch a track day in full swing.

And that completely changes the experience.

The Route

This walk loops around both the outer perimeter and parts of the inner track area, giving you a good mix of views across the circuit.

It’s an easy, steady route with no major climbs. You’re mostly on wide paths and open ground, so it’s accessible for most people.

Distance-wise, it’s another short and manageable one, ideal for a casual walk rather than anything too demanding.

The Highlight – Track Day Action

We got seriously lucky on this one.

There was a general track day running, which meant we had a constant stream of cars flying round the circuit while we walked. Not something you get on your average stroll.

From classic open-wheel race cars to older Formula-style machines, there was loads to take in. The sound, the speed, the atmosphere. It adds a completely different edge to the walk.

Family Friendly?

  • Easy terrain and distance
  • Loads of space to move around
  • Constant entertainment if cars are on track

Just keep in mind:

  • You’ll want to keep kids close near fencing and viewing areas
  • It can be noisy when cars are running

If your kids like cars, this is an easy win.

Facilities (Better Than Most Walks)

One thing that really sets this walk apart is the facilities.

  • Plenty of toilets dotted around the track
  • Easy access parking
  • Food and drink options on-site

If you’re stopping for a bite, I’d highly recommend Garage 39. Proper decent spot to grab some food and sit down after the walk.

Final Thoughts

This one caught me off guard in a good way.

What started as a simple walk turned into something a bit more memorable just because of what was happening around us.

It’s a good reminder that not every walk needs to be deep in the countryside. Sometimes a change of setting is all it takes.

And if you time it right, you might get a front-row view of something pretty special while you’re at it.
